You can implement effective and compassionate parenting with success, on purpose and by design. Infants come into this world as optimists in regards to human relationships. This is a shift from conventional beliefs, but has been documented by my research and work with hundreds of children. A child's inner happiness becomes resolute when they are certain that you love caring for them. As they mature, children increasingly use the knowledge that you help them become happy and competent as a resource for their inner happiness. Even though you may have been told that challenges and frustrations build character, it is really your caring responses that instill unshakable character in your child. Just think about it. Is there a situation you have gone through or are going through that is challenging and frustrating and did it really build character . . . or could that character have been developed with a loving and compassionate stance AND offered happiness within you? Remember, the Joy is in the Journey. What kind of journey are you offering your children?
